1783, October 22. Complains of the presence of the stalkers in Kenloch, 'fatt mutton is a temptation too powerfull to be resisted by the indolent followers of a Highland Chieff that I last year dispossessed'.
1786, June 29. Regrets Mrs. McLachlan, the midwife, will not be able to attend at Barcaldine's wife's inlaying, as his own wife requires her service; points out that the midwife is demanding a double fee from writer to make up for her disappointment in losing fee from Barcaldine.
1789, March 28. Re an action at instance of a tenant of Barcaldine's against Allan McIntyre, a 'cross litigious fellow', anent a heifer; does not think he should be apprehended without a precognition of his guilt, 'we live here, my good sir, in the land of liberty, and dare not deprive the meanest creature of his liverty without just cause, as you can do in Lorn without danger of being brought to account for it'.
