Description |
Thinks Hugh, Barcaldine's brother, should surrender to his creditors; he will get nothing from writer if he takes his daughter from him without writer's consent, 'I solemnly swear that a shilling of mine they shall never finger', 5 November, 1784.
6 March, 1785. Re marriage of writer's daughter to Barcaldine's brother, Hugh; does not know which of them has made the worst bargain, 'however you have this consolation, that whatever Hugh's follies have been, you have no reason to blush for them, as they have been the vices of a gentleman'
