Description |
6 February 1753. Announces birth of a daughter to Janet, writer's daughter, relict of Colin Campbell of Glenure; assures recipient that writer will 'at all times be ready to shew my regard for you or any that will bear the title of Glenure'.
11 June 1753. Enquires if Glenure ever heard what became of Allan Breck.
30 July 1753. Gives news that Janet, his daughter has privately married Mr. Baillie's son, 'without asking me a single question till I found it out by the merest accident, on her way with me to Tongue. This pretty bargain happned on the 15 and rather 16 currant, Mr. Baillie declares on soul, conscience and salvation, that he never knew of it'. The moment writer knew of her state he turned her off, has refused to have her under his roof and will never see her face again.
27 August, 1754. The children (Lucy, Betty and Colin) have been innoculated for smallpox with great success
