Description |
Mostly concerned with the supply of groceries and other merchandise from Stirling.
Some of the letters are signed by Colin McLeran in Robert Campbell's absence.
12 February 1753. Has heard from Mr. Baillie that Janet McKay, relict of Colin Campbell of Glenure, has had a daughter, 'this oppens a succession to you and family to whom and sister I tender my best respects'.
23 October 1754. Will send Annie her gown later in the week as it is not ready as 'our mantua makers are so hurried making gowns etc. for Captain Campbell's ball'.
24 March 1755. Has heard of poor Archie's death (their brother) at Naples, 20th February.
13 March 1757. Sends a cardinal (French cloak), 'dear but very pretty' for Anny Barcaldine at Creef, at £2.12.6d.
8 December 1763. Edinburgh. Gives details of his action against McLean and complains of lack of support from their brother, Barcaldin, 'had any man pulled his nose or insulted him, I would have resented it with my person, my pocket, or my interest, but he is of a different mould, his prejudice to Mungo makes him forget I am his brother, I will forgive, but never will forget his behaviour to me on this occasion'.
Dated at Stirling, London. |
