Description |
15th July, 1760. Sachsenhousen Camp. Gives news of the war, 'its thought the French will make a bold puch to be in to Hanover, and we will make as bold a puch to keep them back, but how it will end god knows, but I expect to kill a deer in Monamronach after all this is over ... the people (are) very gay and polite very much of the French fashion, I have seen very fine ladies here ride stride legs; all the Hussare wives rides so with their hats and cockads, boots and spurs, throw woods and hills along with their husbands where ever they go'.
3 April, 1780. Has sold his London edition of Dr. Campbell's 'Lives of the British Admirals' which was very dear; now wishes to send for an Irish edition of the same work, which will be about the one half cheaper; promises to let Glenure have the use of it, although he does not lend his books to any man or woman out of Appin nor to three people within it.
Dated at Sachsenhousen Camp, Ardsheil, etc. |
