Description |
Dated at Ardmore, Tongue. 1753, January 11. 'I saw Steward's speech which is but a very poor one in the opinion of most people. I hope his Tryalls will convince mainie of his Guilt when they are come out of the Print. I understand he blamed Balevolan for the Misfortune that happen'd tho God knows undeservedly'.
1753, February 22. Regrets to announce birth of a niece (Colin Campbell, posthumous daughter of Colin Campbell of Glenure,) instead of a nephew (who would have inherited estate of Glenure); 'Yow wont be surprized when I tell yow, this Disapointment sitts heavie on me, and greatly adds to the manny afflictions I have mett with ... As to that idle clatter that was said of my Papa and me ... I never imagined but yow woud here it, that there was a son to be Put in Place of a daughter ... I fancy it has first come from the Freinds of that wretch who was executed'
1753, June 21. Has left children well, feels that she has never seen finer bairns, especially Betty who gains everybody's affections, and Lucie has her own, 'as for the other poor thing, I can say little of her yett only she promises well'. Only looks for common justice at Glenure's hands, is sure that no person of common sense will think her demands extravagent.
1756, October 9. Suggests that her daughters should be boarded in Tain |
