Mostly from Ireland. Is to sail for Hollan, (1 April 1747).
1759, July 27. Ticonderoga.
Has pleasure in acquainting him with the news that they have got possession of for of Ticonderoga with very little loss. Hopes to take Crown Point, 'if we be able to take that I think we do wounders considering the Deficulty it is to get at them, but our tropps have such Confidence in the abilitys of our present General that the'll get over all Difficultys'.

'I'm sorry to hear the part our nephews the colonel and David, took in the Perthshire election, particularly the colonel who by all the tyes of gratitude, ought to have given his interest to L(or)d B(re)d(al)b(an)e let David do as he pleas'd.

'The accounts I have had of our nephew David's behaveour, gives me Great uneasiness. I wish he had never been Born, I fear he has ruined his Fathers family if he is catch'd he'll surly be hang'd.'

'I am exceedingly glad you have purchased our brother Barcaldine's estate tho it has cost you dear, for it would hurt me exceedingly had it gone out of the family, and I am sure its worth more to you than to any other person, besides the pleasure of being possess'd of what our ancestors took so much trouble to hand down to there posterity and I declare had it gone out of the family I never intended to have seen Argyllshire again'. |
