Announces his intention of going to America as he cannot do anything at home without money.

'My friend Bailey Finlay turn'd out a most avaricious dog and I had either tamely to submit to his intrigues and avarise or expose him, which last I have been necessitate to do and to that degree I believe I shall not be troubled with him any longer'. 1774, March 30. Abbey of Holyroodhouse.
Re proposed settlement with his creditors.

Is succeeding beyond expectation in the grocery way: 'the conduct of the people of this town and province is most distracted and villanous, it deserves an appelation worse than rebellious which they now stand oppen in'; gives particulars of battle of Bunkers Hill, where writer was wounded. |
