Had been sent on expedition to Mull by orders of Newcastle to search for Young Pretender [Bonnie Prince Charlie], but 'had not the least ground to think that he was ever in that island'.
1747, October 7. Lochgoyll.
'The Duke of (Argyll) has had the honour to lye here last night and be storm stayd all this day which he bears easiest of any in the company'.
