Re Barcaldine's sale of lands of Barcaldine; 'I'm determind to be a Bidder and will streach every Nerve to Secure the paternal Estate entire in the family and if I succeed in that which is the hight of my ambition my next care will be to Tailzie it to myself and the heirs male Lawfull procreat of my own Body in the order of their seniority ... so as there I may put it out of the power of a Successor to play Tricks with that Subject for the future'.
