Title |
Contract of Marriage betwixt Elizabeth McDowell daughter of Alexander McDowell of Logan with consent of Patrick McDowell younger of Logan on the one part, and Hew McDowell apparent of Daregill son of Hew McDowell of Daregill on the other part. Hew McDowell elder to infeft the spouses in his 8 merkland of Ballard & Creochis in the parish of Kirkinner at a yearly rent of 400 merks & also to infeft them in an annual rent of 200 merks furth of the 40/- lands of Upper Portincalzie, 20/- land of Achtifie & 40/- land of Achleoche in the parish of Kirkcum; also to infeft Hew younger in the 12 merkland of Daregill in the parish of Kirkinner and also in 4,800 merks lying in wadset on the lands of Portincalzie, Achtifie & Achleoch, reserving to the said Hew McDowell elder & Elizabeth Powe his spouse, the liferent of 4 merklands of Daregill and its corn mylne. Description |
At Place of Logan. Wit:- Uchtred McDowell of Freuch, Mr. James Laurey minister at Stanykirk, Mr. Robert Hay in Logane, Andrew McDowell lawful son to said Alexander McDowell, James McKittrick writer hereof & Uchtred McDowell brother to the said Alexander.
A note appended states that the marriage took place on 6 Jan. 1653 at Kirk of Stanykirk by Mr. Alexander Turnbull and that "my eldest daughter Jean was born Monday 2 Jan. 1654 about 8 hours at night at Daregill and was baptised the next Sabbath at Kirkinner by Mr. George Mack. My second daughter Agnes was born upon Tuesday 1 May 1655 about 2 hours in the morning at Ballaird and was baptised next Sabbath at Kirkcowane by Mr. Alexander Ross. My eldest son Alexander was born on Thursday 8 Jan. 1657 about six o'clock at night at Ballaird and was baptised at Kirkinder upon Friday 16 Jan. by Mr. George Mack and departit yis lyfe about twa afternoone upon 28 June 1658 at Drumore and is interred at Stanikirk. He died in ye pocks. My third daughter Elizabeth was born upon Saturday 6 Nov. 1658 about twa houres in the morning at Drumore and was baptised at Kirkmaiden upon Sunday 14 Nov. by Mr. James Laurey. |
