Description |
Business records of Messrs James Brown & Co Ltd, Papermakers, Esk Mills Penicuik. This firm could trace its history to 1776 when Peter Brotherston and Bertram Gardner & Co, Bankers in Edinburgh, formed a partnership for setting up a cotton-spinning establishment at Penicuik. Paper manufacturing was added about 1792, and the cotton business was dropped about 1810. The records below include some interesting strays from other sources. |
