Strathaven Free Church began at the Disruption, when the minister and most of his congregation adhered to the Free Church. A new church building was opened in 1844 (replaced 1884). It passed successively to the United Free Church, as Strathaven Rankin, and to the Church of Scotland. The Church of Scotland charge, now linked with Chapelton, is in the presbytery of Hamilton and was in the synod of Clydesdale until the abolition of synods in 1993. |
