Hamilton, Brandon Street, Second Relief Church was an offshoot of an older Relief congregation in the town, Hamilton Auchingramont, partly arising from a dispute over a call to a minister there in 1831. The minority first protested, then applied to be constituted a separate congregation. A new church was opened in the same year and a minister ordained in 1832. The new congregation passed successively to the United Presbyterian as Hamiton Brandon Street United Presbyterian , and then to the United Free Church, dropping the 'Street' from the name. In 1929 the congregation passed back to the Established Church as Hamilton Brandon Church of Scotland. The Church of Scotland charge, which was in the presbytery of Hamilton and the synod of Clydesdale, was first linked with Hamilton Avon Street in 1963 and then united with it as Hamilton St Andrew's in 1967. |
