history |
Arbroath, First United Associate Congregation (Antiburgher) originated in 1782, with a session constituted in 1784 and a minister ordained in 1789. A church was built in North Grimsby Street, which then gave its name to the congregation. After transfer to the United Presbyterians, a new church was built (opened 1867), leading to a name change to Princes Street. It passed successively to the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, and first linked with Arbroath Erskine in 1957, and then united with it in 1959 as Arbroath St Columba's. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Arbroath and the synod of Angus and Mearns. |
