Edinburgh, Holyrood Free Church began as a mission under Free St Luke's in 1846. The charge was sanctioned in 1849, with a church at the foot of Canongate opened in the following year. It passed to the United Free Church, but church and hall were sold in 1910 and the congregation united with Abbeyhill as Edinburgh Holyrood-Abbey United Free. In 1929 it became a Church of Scotland congregation. The United Free charge was in the presbytery of Edinburgh and the synod of Lothian. A union with Edinburgh London Road took place on 1 February 2017. The united charge taking the name of Edinburgh: Meadowbank Church of Scotland. The Holyrood Abbey building was retained as the church of the united parish. |
