Edinburgh, Granton and Wardie Free Church began as a preaching station in 1874, with an iron church built the same year. The charge was sanctioned in 1876 and was known initially as Granton and Wardie, later as St James'. It passed successively to the United Free Church, as Edinburgh St James's (sic), and to the Church of Scotland as Edinburgh Inverleith. The building burned down in 1930 but was restored in 1932. The Church of Scotland charge is in the presbytery of Edinburgh and was in the synod of Lothian and Tweeddale until the abolition of synods in 1993. |
