Innerleithen United Secession Church originated with a petition for a preaching station in 1847 to the Presbytery of Edinburgh. This was acceded to, but the new congregation, formed in 1848, was placed in the presbytery of Selkirk. The first minister, John Law, was inducted in 1850. It passed successively to the United Presbyterian and United Free Churches, in the latter case as Innerleithen Law, which united with Innerleithen St John's as Innerleithen United Free in 1919. The Church of Scotland charge, Innerleithen Craigside, which was in the presbytery of Galashiels and synod of Merse and Teviotdale, united with Innerleithen Old as Innerleithen in 1960. |
