Coatbridge [Maxwell] Reformed Presbyterian Church was established as a station under Airdrie RP in 1868. The congregation was formed in 1869, the first minister ordained in 1870 and a church built in 1873. At the union of 1876 it passed to the Free Church as Coatbridge East, and then successively to the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, in the latter case as Coatbridge Maxwell, in memory of Adam Maxwell, minister from 1888 to 1926. Coatbridge Maxwell, Coatbridge Dunbeth and Coatbridge Gartsherrie united in 1993 as Coatbridge St Andrew's. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Hamilton and until the abolition of synods in 1993, in the synod of Clydesdale. |
