Ayton United Presbyterian Church was formed in 1894 by the union of two United Presbyterian congregations, Ayton Springbank (Antiburgher) and Ayton Summerhill (Burgher), both originating in the 18th century. It passed successively to the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, in the latter case as Ayton West, but was immediately reduced in status in 1930 and united with Ayton Old as Ayton in 1934. The United Free charge was in the presbytery of Duns and Chirnside and the synod of Merse and Teviotdale. |
