Grant's House (Houndwood) Free Church originated soon after the Disruption. At first Free Church adherents from the quoad sacra parish of Houndwood were supplied from Auchencrow. A charge was then sanctioned in 1845 as Grant's House, with a church at Houndwood built in 1847. In 1888 the church and manse were moved from Houndwood to Grant's House, partly because of the formation of a separate congregation at Reston. Grant's House passed to the United Free Church with that name, and then to the Church of Scotland as Grantshouse (sic), which linked with Houndwood as Grantshouse and Houndwood in 1952. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Duns and the synod of Merse and Teviotdale. |
