Burnmouth United Presbyterian Church began as a preaching station in Burnmouth, then a fishing village in Ayton parish, in 1897. The first minister was appointed in the following year. It passed successively to the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, and linked with Ayton in 1969. Further linkages followed. The Church of Scotland charge, now Ayton and Burnmouth, is in the presbytery of Duns and was in the synod of Merse and Teviotdale until the abolition of synods in 1993. |
