Eskdalemuir Free Church originated with a Reformed Presbyterian group at Davington whose church building dated from 1836, although the area had been a centre of covenanting activity since the 17th century. The ordination of a minister had to wait until 1847, the congregation then being known as Eskdalemuir and Ettrick. It passed to the Free Church at the union of 1876, as Eskdalemuir, and finally to the United Free Church, but from 1912 was served by missionaries, and it did not survive the union of 1929. The United Free charge was in the presbytery of Annandale and the synod of Dumfries and Galloway. |
