Galashiels East United Associate (Burgher) Church originated with a petition for sermon to the Burgher Presbytery of Selkirk in 1804. It was not immediately followed up, but a disjunction was granted in 1805, and the first minister was ordained in the following year. It passed successively to the United Presbyterian and United Free Churches, in the latter case as Galashiels East. The Church of Scotland charge, which was in the presbytery of Melrose and the synod of Merse and Teviotdale, united with Galashiels St Mark's as Galashiels St Columba's in 1962. |
