Kilfinan Free Church originated at the Disruption, when the minister and many of his congregation adhered to the Free Church. In 1850 a church was erected at Millhouse, in 1861 another at Kilfinan and two years later a third at Tighnabruaich, then developing as a seaside resort. In 1877 Tighnabruaich became a separate charge and the original congregation was further weakened by the separation of some of its members as a Reformed Presbyterian congregation, in consequence of the Declaratory Act. It passed successively to the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, in the latter case as Kames, which in 1957 united with Kilbride as Kames and Kilbride. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Dunoon and the synod of Argyll. |
