Blairgowrie, First Free Church was formed at the Disruption, when the minister and a large part of his congregation adhered to the Free Church. The new church building opened in November 1843. In 1857 the congregation split over a call to a minister, leading to the formation of Blairgowrie South Free Church. Blairgowrie First passed successively to the United Free Church, as Blairgowrie St Andrew's, and to the Church of Scotland. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Meigle (later Dunkeld and Meigle) and in the synod of Angus and Mearns until the abolition of synods in 1993. |
