Tillicoultry South was originally a General Associate Synod (Antiburgher) congregation formed in 1797. Their first minister was inducted in 1801. The congregation followed other Associate congregations into the United Secession Church in 1820 and became part of the United Presbyterian Church in 1847. On the union with the Free Church in 1900 the congregation took the name Tillicoultry South to distinguish it from the original Free Church, Tillicoultry North. The two congregations were united in 1912 to become Tillicoultry. |
