Westerdale Free Church originated at the Disruption, when a missionary at Auchrenny joined the Free Church and a church and manse were erected at Westerdale Bridge. The charge was sanctioned in the same year. It passed successively to the United Free Church, as Westerdale and Halsary, and to the Church of Scotland. The Church of Scotland charge, which was in the presbytery of Caithness and synod of Ross, Sutherland and Caithness, was linked with Halkirk in 1970 and united with it as Halkirk and Westerdale in 1986. |
