Halkirk Free Church was formed at the Disruption, when the minister and a large part of his congregation adhered to the Free Church. A new church was opened in 1845 (replaced 1886). Some of the congregation seceded to the Free Presbyterian Church in 1894. Halkirk Free Church passed successively to the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, in the latter case as Halkirk West, which united with Halkirk Abbey as Halkirk in 1933. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Caithness and the synod of Ross, Sutherland and Caithness. |
