Canisbay Free Church was sanctioned as a charge in 1843, with a church, manse and school erected in 1845, although the first minister was not settled until 1851. It passed successively to the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, in the latter case as Canisbay South, which united with Canisbay Old as Canisbay in 1950. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Caithness and the synod of Ross, Sutherland and Caithness. |
