Bruan Free Church began as a mission of the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, whose minister adhered to the Free Church at the Disruption. The charge was sanctioned in 1845 and a minister settled in 1847. It passed to the United Free Church, but church and manse were allocated to the Free Church and replacements were built in 1910. The Church of Scotland charge, which was in the presbytery of Caithness and the synod of Ross, Sutherland and Caithness, united with Thrumster as Bruan-Thrumster in 1934. In 1961 the union was dissolved and Bruan united with Lybster as Lybster and Bruan. |
