Eccles Free Church was formed as a preaching station in 1843, but a full church and manse were built in 1844 and a minister settled in the following year. It passed to the United Free Church, but rural depopulation led to the work being carried on by lay agents from 1912 and the congregation was dissolved in 1923. The United Free charge was in the presbytery of Jedburgh and Kelso and the synod of Merse and Teviotdale. |
