Barrhead Free Church was formed at the Disruption, when the minister of the quoad sacra parish and a large part of the congregation adhered to the Free Church. A new church was built in 1846. The congregation established stations at Neilston and Nitshill, both of which later became sanctioned charges. It passed successively to the United Free Church, as Barrhead South, and to the Church of Scotland. Barrhead South joined with Levern and Nitshill as Barrhead South and Levern in 1985. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Paisley and the synod of Clydesdale. |
