Montrose, Second United Associate Congregation began as Montrose, John Street (Burgher) Church, which was formed by a small group of Seceders in the town who adhered to the Burgher side. The group applied for sermon from 1784, but did not obtain their own minister until 1790. The congregation passed successively to the United Presbyterian and United Free Churches, in the latter case as Montrose Trinity, which united with Montrose St George's in 1923 as Montrose St George's and Trinity. The Trinity church was then sold. The United Free charge was in the presbytery of Brechin and Fordoun and the synod of Fife and Angus. |
