Midmar Free Church began as a Burgher church, a group of Original Seceders who petitioned for supply of sermon in 1818, but whose first minister was not ordained until 1832. He took his congregation into the union of 1839 with the Church of Scotland and then into the Free Church four years later, at the Disruption. Midmar Free Church was vacant for a time in the 1850s and reduced to a preaching station, but later restored. It passed successively to the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, in the latter case as Midmar West, which united with Midmar Christ Church as Midmar in 1936. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery and synod of Aberdeen. |
