Kinlochbervie Free Church was formed at the Disruption, when most of the existing congregation adhered to the Free Church. A church and manse were built in 1846 and a minister settled in 1848. Some members seceded in 1892 as a result of the Declaratory Act. The charge passed successively to the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland. The two local churches then amalgamated as Kinlochbervie, using the former United Free church and manse. The combined Church of Scotland charge, which was in the presbytery of Tongue and the synod of Ross, Sutherland and Caithness, linked with Eddrachillis from 1957 to 1963, and thereafter with Durness. Durness and Kinlochbervie was formed by union in 1990. |
