Sydney Place and East Campbell Street Church, Glasgow, was formed by the union of two United Free churches in 1926. Sydney Place began in 1789, successively as Campbell Street, then Sydney Place Burgher Church, and then as Sydney Place United Presbyterian and United Free Church. The removal from Campbell Street to Duke Street at Sydney Street was not until 1858. East Campbell Street Relief Church was formed in 1791, with a church dating from the same year. It later became Campbell Street East United Presbyterian (later still United Free) Church. The merged congregation continue to worship in the Duke Street building. It terminated in 1949 on uniting with Wellpark as Trinity Duke Street. As a Church of Scotland charge it was in the presbytery of Glasgow and the synod of Clydesdale. |
