Bellshill Free Church began in 1873 with services which for a time were held in Mossend school. The charge was sanctioned in the following year and a church and manse erected in 1875. It passed to the United Free Church as Bellshill East, with a change of name to Bellshill Macdonald Memorial in 1912. William Macdonald had been its minister from 1874 until his retirement in 1906. In 1929 it became a Church of Scotland charge in the presbytery of Hamilton. It was in the synod of Clydesdale until the abolition of synods in 1993. |
