Newhaven Free Church was formed at the Disruption, when the minister and congregation of Newhaven quoad sacra parish adhered to the Free Church. They continued in possession of the church until 1849, when they were deprived of it by legal action. A new one was built in 1852, and rebuilt and enlarged in 1884. It passed successively to the United Free Church, as Edinburgh Newhaven, and to the Church of Scotland, as Edinburgh Newhaven St Andrew's. The Church of Scotland charge, which was in the presbytery of Edinburgh and the synod of Lothian and Tweeddale, united with Newhaven-on-Forth as Newhaven in 1974. |
