Eglinton Elgin Church, Glasgow, originated with a United Presbyterian preaching station in Gorbals, which built a church in Main Street in 1854 and twenty years later moved to Elgin Street (later Turriff Street), as Elgin Street United Presbyterian (Mission) Church (later Elgin Street United Free Church). This became Eglinton Elgin in 1920 after a union with Eglinton Street United Free Church. Eglinton Elgin joined the Church of Scotland at the union of 1929 and terminated in 1953, on uniting with Candlish Memorial as Candlish Memorial (II). As a Church of Scotland charge it was in the presbytery of Glasgow and the synod of Clydesdale. |
