The congregation of Dirleton Free Church was established in 1843, at the time of the Disruption, when the minister of Dirleton Parish Church adhered to the Free Church. For a time the congregation held service within a barn at Castlemains, a church however was soon erected and the manse was built in 1854. In 1900, at the time of the union between the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Dirleton Free Church became Direlton United Free Church and following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Dirleton United Free was renamed Direlton South Church of Scotland. The charge, which sat within the Presbytery of Haddington and Dunbar, was dissolved soon after in 1935. |
