Dunning (Burgher) United Presbyterian Church originated with a disputed presentation to the parish church by the Earl of Kinnoull in 1768, leading to a petition for sermon to Perth Burgher Presbytery. The congregation suffered numerous early setbacks, including difficulty in obtaining a site for a church. The first minister was ordained in 1773, and a new church was built in 1806. It passed successively to the United Presbyterian and United Free Churches, in the latter case as Dunning Townhead, which united with Dunning South in 1908 as Dunning United Free. The United Free charge was in the presbytery of Auchterarder and the synod of Perth and Stirling. |
