Linlithgow East (Antiburgher) Church began with a Secession congregation serving a large area of central Scotland and based at Craigmailen, an isolated spot between Linlithgow and Bathgate. At the Breach of 1747 over the burgess oath its minister adhered to the Antiburghers, although most of the congregation remained as Burghers. The Antiburgher congregation became Linlithgow East, and had a church built in 1806. It passed successively to the United Presbyterian and United Free Churches, and in 1917 united with Linlithgow Trinity as Linlithgow Craigmailen. The United Free charge was in the presbytery of Linlithgow and Falkirk and the synod of Lothian. |
