Paisley Reformed Presbyterian Church owed its earliest origins to what was known as the congregation 'of the Shire of Renfrewshire', then based on Kilmacolm. In 1803 it approached its Presbytery with a request for disjunction into East and West congregations, with the East church to be based on Paisley. This was acceded to and a minister was ordained in Paisley in 1809. In 1876 the congregation adhered to the union with the Free Church, as Paisley Oakshaw. It then passed successively to the United Free Church, as Paisley Oakshaw West, and to the Church of Scotland. In 1972 the Church of Scotland charge, which was in the presbytery of Paisley and the synod of Clydesdale, united with Paisley South as Paisley St Luke's. |
