Gorebridge Free Church began with a church extension congregation which adhered to the Free Church at the Disruption. In 1847 a catechist was appointed, a church was built in 1859 (replaced 1882) and the charge was sanctioned in 1861 as Stobhill Church, Gorebridge, later Gorebridge. It passed successively to the United Free Church, as Gorebridge St Paul's, which united with Gorebridge East in 1921 as Gorebridge United Free, and to the Church of Scotland. The Church of Scotland charge, which reverted to the name of Gorebridge St Paul's, and which was in the presbytery of Dalkeith and synod of Lothian and Tweeddale, united in 1975 with Temple and with Gorebridge Stobhill as Gorebridge. |
