Fort William Free Church began at the Disruption, when an ordained missionary and his congregation adhered to the Free Church. A new church was built in 1846 (replaced 1890). It passed to the United Free Church, although the congregation was evicted for six months in 1904 by the Free Church, and to the Church of Scotland. The Church of Scotland charge, Fort William MacIntosh Memorial, is in the presbytery of Lochaber and was in the synod of Argyll until the abolition of synods in 1993. John MacIntosh was minister from 1881 until 1910. |
