Edinburgh, Morningside United Presbyterian Church began in 1862 with a petition for a preaching station from inhabitants of what was then referred to as 'the village of Morningside'. The congregation was formed and a church opened in the following year. The first minister was inducted in 1864. A new church was soon required, and it was formally opened in October 1881. It passed successively to the United Free Church, as North Morningside, and to the Church of Scotland. The Church of Scotland charge, which was in the presbytery of Edinburgh and the synod of Lothian and Tweeddale, linked with Morningside in 1974. Morningside United was formed in 1980 by the union of North Morningside and Morningside Congregational Church. |
