The origin of the Dennyloanhead congregation can be traced to 1746 when a group of seceders of the Associate Presbytery were recognised as a distinct community. They had protested against the use of patronage in the church for several years, in particular at the appointment of a minister in 1738. At the Breach of 1747 the congregation joined the Antiburgher side which was to become the General Associate Synod. With the union of the Associates in 1820 the church became part of the United Secession Church and in 1847 the United Presbyterian Church in the Presbytery of Falkirk. The United Presbyterians became the United Free Church in 1900 and the congregation followed most other United Free Churches into the Church of Scotland in 1929. The church was linked with High Bonnybridge St Helen's from 1963 to 1978, then from 1978 with Haggs. The congregation was dissolved in 1991. |
