Aberdeen: Rutherford Free Church originated as a mission established in 1850. The charge was sanctioned in 1868 and a Rutherford church built in 1870. It was renovated in 1882, reconstructed and extended in 1896. Following the union in 1900 of the Free Church with the United Presbyterian Church, the congregation became Aberdeen: Rutherford United Free Church. In 1929 the United Free Church joined the Church of Scotland, and the church at Rutherford became a Church of Scotland charge, keeping the same name of Rutherford. A manse was later purchased in 1949. In 1990 the charge was united with Aberdeen: Rosemount Church of Scotland as Rosemount Church. Rosemount was dissolved on 15 May 2006. |
