Crieff General Associate (Antiburgher) Congregation was formed in 1762 following petition for sermon to the General Associate Presbytery of Stirling. General Associate Synod erected Crieff and Comrie into a congregation with two churches and a joint session. Crieff church was built in 1765. In 1778 the congregations of Crieff and Comrie were disjoined. In 1820 the United Secession Church was formed by the union of the Associate (Burgher) Synod with the General Associate (Antiburgher) Synod. In 1847 the United Secession Church amalgamated with the Relief Church and the United Presbyterian Church was established. In 1838 a new church was opened on the site of the old church. In 1881 a manse was built and in 1884 a new church was opened. Following the union in 1900 of the United Presbyterian Church with the Free Church, the congregation became Crieff North United Free Church. In 1929 the United Free Church joined with the Church of Scotland and the church became Crieff North Church of Scotland in the Presbytery of Auchterarder. In 1955 the charge was united with Crieff West Church under the name Crieff St Andrew's Church of Scotland which retained Crieff North church buildings. In 1989 Crieff St Andrew's united with Crieff St Michael's as Crieff St Andrew's and St Michael's Church of Scotland. In 1997 Crieff Church of Scotland was formed through the amalgamation of Crieff St Andrew's and St Michael's with Crieff South and Monzievaird Church. |
